“Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty.”
– Winston Churchill
Our “Aybolit: On the Way to Recovery” project continues to persevere and maintain operations without slowing down. Over two years of continuous work have allowed us to assist 5,584 patients, including veterans with serious injuries and amputations. Our vehicles have covered 129,585km during this period. In June, 308 people used the project’s free services, including a child with special needs who has been our regular patient for three consecutive years:
- Medical transportation – 82 persons
- Aquatic therapy – 71 persons
- Kinesiotherapy & adaptive sports training – 40 persons
- Equine-assisted therapy (hippotherapy) – 48 persons
- Psychological retreats – 14 persons
- Entrepreneurship courses – 23 persons
- Psychological support – 3 persons
- Legal assistance – 26 persons
- Medical support – 1 person
Since the project’s inception, our vehicles have transported over 2,800 individuals. Demand remains high for single-person transportation services for patients with limited mobility. We value every veteran and never decline urgent transportation requests.
Our youngest regular patient is five-year-old Nazar. Two years ago, following his first ambulance ride with us, his first spoken word was “Vehicle.” The boy developed a strong bond with driver Andriy “Positive” Lytvynenko, who has transported this special-needs child and his mother to medical appointments for three consecutive years. Nazar now dreams of becoming a driver like Andriy.
His mother notes that our assistance significantly improves his condition and helps him engage with the world trustingly. We’re proud to support his development and recovery journey.
Therapeutic horseback riding maintains its popularity. Every Sunday, we transport participants from “Lisova Polyana” to Zabirya’s Klondike Stable for lakeside therapy sessions. Nearly 680 veterans have utilized this service since the program began.
At the National University of Physical Education and Sports of Ukraine (NUFVSU), our swimming team continues regular training. Over 640 veterans have benefited from aquatherapy services since the project’s launch.
Aybolit has installed complimentary exercise equipment at NUFVSU for use by swim team members and other veterans.
Veterans enthusiastically participate in our nature retreats that support mental health. Activities include eco-bag painting workshops, with psychological support available throughout. Shared meals, barbecues, and team sports foster camaraderie. We believe our operational expertise and procedural standards are critically needed elsewhere. In June, Aybolit established:
- Cooperation agreement with Irpin City Council’s Veterans Policy Department (Acting Head Liudmyla Rudenko)
- Partnership with Kotsyubynske Primary Healthcare Center (Director Ihor Chebyshev)
Recent initiatives at Irpin’s Veterans’ Space include:
- Three 2-day “Start Your Own Business” workshops (with Serve Now Ukraine Foundation)
- Business training sessions under the Capable and Resistant Program
Part of the above initiatives is realized by the Wings of Victory charity within the Capable and Resistant Program implemented by the East Europe Foundation with the financial support of Switzerland.
We also express our sincere gratitude to our permanent sponsors, without which the activities of the project would be impossible:
